3 Cowboys who could be NFL Award candidates for the 2022 season

The Dallas Cowboys were nominated for multiple and took home a few awards from the 2022 NFL Honors ceremony. Micah Parsons was the first player to ever unanimously win Defensive Rookie of the Year and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn was voted AP Assistant Coach of the Year. Could the Cowboys see several nominees and winners again in 2023?

With a roster as talented as this one, the Cowboys could have multiple players on both sides of the ball that are in the running for end-of-season awards. While the ultimate goal of an NFL season is to win the Super Bowl, these awards are still very important to the players. Let’s take a look at some members of the roster who could win some hardware.

3. Jalen Tolbert, Offensive Rookie of the Year

This may come as a surprise to many because Jalen Tolbert is a third-round pick. But, the opportunity will be there for the South Alabama product. Michael Gallup will be recovering from his ACL injury into the first month of the season, which means Tolbert will get some meaningful snaps in until he is back.

Usually, the Offensive Rookie of the Year goes to a quarterback. However, this rookie class was weak on QBs and it’s more than likely that none of the quarterbacks drafted will start in Week 1. So, that leaves it up to running back and wide receivers as the best options.

There were plenty of receivers drafted in the first round, so Tolbert may seem like an afterthought to many. But, you could argue that the Cowboys rookie is in the best situation to show his worth amongst all the receivers drafted ahead of him.

The Cowboys lost 205 targets from their offense with Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson now with different teams. Those targets need to go somewhere, and I think Tolbert will be one beneficiary.

Overall, the rookie is going to have the opportunity to get targets on a top-five offense. If he can build chemistry with Dak Prescott throughout the offseason, the sky is the limit.
