WNBA style power rankings: Behold the summer pants

Can you believe we’re already at the All-Star break? Where has the summer gone?

This week, the stars will converge in Chicago, and there are sure to be plenty of power outfits. To hold us off and make us ready for more, I bring you edition No. 4 of the style rankings.

Because I noticed a trend as I was perusing stylish photos, I had to pay tribute. So this ranking is to all the wonderful pairs of pants and shorts being worn across the league. I love a good summer sundress, but the stars are convincing me I should up my trouser game.

Without further ado, here are the rankings:

10. Stef Dolson

Dolson has embodied summer in her recent looks, and she was in the last edition of this style power rankings for some accessories that had us ready to hop a plane for vacay. Matching separates are quite in vogue for WNBA players, and Dolson gives us a preppy twist. The green stripe is casual, yet put together with the fanny pack it gives an even more utilitarian appeal.

9. Queen Egbo

It’s giving Buffy and The Vampire Diaries vibes. So naturally, because I’m currently watching “The Vampire Diaries” for the first time, I had to add it. (A season and a half in, I’m Team Damon, BTW.) Leather pants in summer? I’m in if these are it. Just give me this birthday fit, please.

8. Sydney Colson

An orange dream! Colson might be mostly covered up, but this look is bringing the heat. Colson credited stylist Amadi Brooks in her Instagram post. We need more of this collab.

7. Skylar Diggins-Smith

I’m having flashbacks to wearing my dad’s jersey as a child in this styling of PUMA’s Desert Sky collection. Diggins-Smith rocks the look, and the pants underneath are tres chic. But in the teaser video, it’s worn as a dress. Lots of versatility in this statement piece, and now I want to be lounging poolside in it. Plus, the colorway of the kicks is amazing. Imagine wearing a sunset on your feet. Just a gorgeous use of nature as inspiration.

6. Alysha Clark

We love some resort wear, and this is the perfect dinner outfit after a day in the sun. Clark teamed up with stylist Kiarra Looks to create this ensemble.

5. Nia Clouden

More fun pants! These are amazing in their simplicity and impact. A classic blue flare jean but with painted hearts. Simply styled with a white collared shirt and white boots. We definitely heart this.

4. Chelsea Gray

How can you not love matching looks with a spouse? The coordinating alone puts Gray on this list, but throw in the fun patterned shorts and it’s a win.

3. Michaela Onyenwere

The jeans of “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” have nothing on these bellbottoms. (Scroll through the Liberty’s Instagram post until you get to them.) From the patchwork to the fringy flare, they’re the perfect confident and event-worthy bottom. In the words of ’70s icons ABBA, Gimme, gimme a pair.

2. Sue Bird

Bird announced her retirement, then the very next game day she pulled out this bright look. Coincidence? I think not. Bird has been making fashion-fit statements all season. We should have known what was coming when she broke out a shirt with her face on it. But once again, Bird nailed this look. With limited game-day fits left for the retiring star, we can’t wait to see what she throws on next.

1. Isabelle Harrison

This was one of the most interesting game-day looks I’ve seen, and I love the play of pattern and texture. Some Instagram tag sleuthing revealed the look was created custom for Harrison by Kim Shui. Per the studio’s account caption, it was “designed as a modern armour inspired by heroines” to highlight Harrison’s strength and femininity. It’s paired with a Jordan bodysuit, shorts and, of course, Air Jordans in a perfect accompanying blue. Who wouldn’t love a modern suit of armor like this?

Bonus addition: Kia Nurse

Nurse cheated her way into these rankings by adding the best accessory, Prim! Is this bribery to get in the ranking? Maybe. But I’ll let ethics slide for dogs. Now, I am officially petitioning for “Bark at the Park” events in WNBA arenas. Give me “Dogs for Dunks.” Give me “Cats on the Court.” Actually, I prefer the dunking dogs, as cats are really not my favorite. I’m sure I’ll see plenty of you in the comments on that one. But I stand by more animals at sporting events. And WNBA stars, now you know how to get on these rankings’ good side.
